Robin Hood Morality Test

An interesting bit of fun

Robin Hood Morality Test

This is a simple psychology test that was apparently devised as a social ice-breaker by an Australian psychologist and marriage expert. In the test a scenario is presented that involves the characters of Robin Hood, Maid Marian, Little John and the Sheriff of Nottingham, and you are asked to rank them in terms of the morality of their actions.

The way you judge each character reveals something about your values and beliefs. A brief psychological summary is given for your particular choice. This is a very basic test, based on a simple snapshot of your attitudes. Take it as an opportunity for self-reflection - or debate with your friends!

Take the test

Read the following short story about Robin Hood, Maid Marian, Little John and the Sheriff of Nottingham. Then simply rank each character (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th) in the order in which you consider they showed the most morality. So, number 1 on your list is the person you consider the most moral and number 4 the least moral. There are no right or wrong answers, just what you honestly believe.

"The Sheriff of Nottingham captured Little John and Robin Hood and imprisoned them in his dungeon. Maid Marian begged the Sheriff for their release, pleading her love for Robin. The Sheriff agreed to release them only if Maid Marian spent the night with him. She agreed.

The next morning the Sheriff released his prisoners. Robin demanded that Marian tell him how she persuaded the Sheriff to let them go free. Marion confessed the truth, and was bewildered when Robin condemned her for having sex with the Sherrif and said that he never wanted to see her again. But Little John defended her, and invited her to leave Sherwood with him, promising life-long devotion. She accepted and they rode away together."

What is your honest opinion about the behaviour of each character? Rank each character (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th) in the order in which you consider they behaved morally:

Rank 1: the most moral

Little John
Maid Marian
Robin Hood
Sheriff of Nottingham

Rank 2:

Rank 3:

Rank 4: the least moral
