Self & Other: Exploring Connection
Personal development workshop on connection

In this one-day workshop we will explore our connection with others. How can I relate authentically while maintaining healthy boundaries? How can I respect myself and my needs while also respecting the other? Can I be myself both within and outside of relationship?

Relationships can be the source of both our greatest desires and joys and of our deepest fears and pain. As relational beings we are naturally drawn to others, yet our innate self-protective instinct demands that we be safe. This may lead to a dilemma: I long to connect with another, yet I fear to do so. Or I connect, but fear to separate.

Will I be judged? Disliked? Rejected? Forgotten? Can I keep myself safe? Will I get my needs met? What demands might be made of me? Can I say Yes? Can I say No? Can I be alone? What if…?

We dance between our longings and our anxieties. Sometimes our actions send confusing messages as we move forward and back, or are frozen. In this workshop we will explore our connection with others. How can I relate authentically while maintaining healthy boundaries? How can I respect myself and my needs while also respecting the other? Can I be myself both within and outside of relationship?

By engaging with the wisdom of the body we can become more deeply aware of what happens when we connect and when we separate. We can learn to respect our longings and anxieties and accept both our "Yes" and our "No". We can start to trust our body's natural ability to set boundaries and establish the pace and space we need. Exploration and awareness in a safe and supportive group allows us to discover possibilities for change.

The workshop will be experiential, and will include individual, paired and group exercises in reflective awareness of mind and body (mindfulness), movement, verbal dialogue, energy contact and touch. Please bring: light exercise clothes to wear; a notebook and pen; a willingness to engage and a desire to both challenge yourself and to have fun.

Please note that while there will be space for sharing, this is not a forum for presenting individual material in depth.

Pulsing is a delightful form of bodywork: a rhythmic, rocking, movement-based approach that is perhaps the most deeply relaxing and most nurturing form of bodywork. These weekend workshops are for anyone interested in body-centred personal development, and can also lead to an approved professional qualification.
